Ten Years Later

Sometimes we forget.(source: here)

Freedom isn’t free. (Source: here)

This country, it’s freedoms, are not just given to us. We have tremendous, courageous fighters to keep us safe and allow us to get away at times with taking our lives for granted.(source: here)

Many people lost loved ones 10 years ago. Some they could count on saying “I love you” everyday to. Some did not even get to say good-bye.(Source: here)

Many people put others before themselves. (Source: here)

Many changes have been made. Lots of lives will never be the same.(Source: here)

Although I was only 6 when this happened, I remember it like it was yesterday. It may be the only memory from 2001, but are there really any other things that would ever impact me more than this one day?

I remember my dad was actually in New York at the time on a business trip. It was certainly going to be a business trip he would never forget. A day that would be in his memory forever. An image that will never fade.  He was planning on staying in the World Trade Center I believe, in the Marriott that was sort of below the towers. He ended up switching to stay in the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan because it was more convenient.

The point is that he was there and my mom was scared out of her mind. At the time, I had no idea something so devastating was happening that would affect the rest of my life.

I think at one point my mom was questioning whether my dad was okay and whether he was alive or not, there were several hours where my dad was not able to call my mom to tell her that he was okay.(Source: here)

Thankfully my dad is safe and returned home a few days later via rental car. Hardly anyone was able to get out of Manhattan, it was a struggle for him to find a way. (He was actually about to take a train home.)(Source: here)

The biggest thing I have learned from our country being attacked, is that you never know what life is going to throw at you next. Nothing is guaranteed, and you must take every breath gratefully. (Source: here)
